Is the suit dead? How to dress to ensure you ace that all important interview.

So you’ve scored an interview for your dream job. Apart from prepping your little heart out another consideration many people have trouble with is dress code. In times gone by it was safe to say that candidates thought they should try and stick to dressing as corporate as possible, no matter the job.  This usually means some form of black trouser and white shirt combination. Did someone say BORING!?

In 2018 the best organisations are hiring for skill and they are looking for those skills in a diverse bunch of individuals. Forward thinking companies are embracing diversity and inclusion; they want all personalities and profiles. A part of our personality is indeed the way we dress! So please, don’t stick to the boring corporate wear. What I mean is start dressing for the job you want. Before you go to your interview do some research. Is the workforce neat casual, can you get away with no tie, are you working in an artistic field that demands a certain uniform? Is the workforce strictly corporate?

A great example is any online business. Usually these days the workforce is a little more casual, often with jeans and a shirt being more than acceptable. If you rush in wearing your best suit this might indicate this is not the job for you! It puts questions around your cultural fit.

Expressing ourselves through clothes is very much apart of who we are. When interviewing make sure you express yourself but keep it inline with that dream job you want to secure! Remember dress for the job you want, if that means corporate so be it, but this day and age it could very well mean many other things!

My take away tip: Do some research on the company you are applying to. What do their current employees wear? Mimic this and bring some of your own style to the interview!

Good luck with your interviews peeps! Dress awesome and go forth and conquer.
